Badges Badges Badges!

Hey TIGers! So in trying to out-grow my newbie status on here, i’ve been scouring the website and learning about all the cool stuff TIG has to offer. My mission for today was to see what all the hype was about for these Badges. Turns out, they’re pretty awesome. At first i had just wanted to see what ones were fairly simple to get so i could have some cool stuff under my TIG belt, but then i found that i was actually learning so much more about the site through completing the tasks. Now i cant get enough of them!

So while i was having some fun with this, i discovered the Challenge button. It lets you and a friend compete to see who can complete the tasks first in order to get a badge. And there’s a catch! There’s a time limit. Once the clock starts ticking, the maximum amount of time you’re granted is thirty days!

Its so easy! All you have to do is go to the Badges page under the Action tab, choose which badge you want to get, then hit Challenge a Friend and begin! So what is everyone waiting for? Come join the fun! Challenge your friends, connect with your global community, and win some badges!

International Day of Reflection on the Genocide in Rwanda
Related to country: Rwanda

Translations available in: English (original) | German

On April 7, 1994 ; what began as a civil war between two rivaling ethnic groups ended in the genocide of 800, 000 men, women, and children in Rwanda. We've all heard about numerous wars all across our globe, but what makes this particular situation so heart wrenching was the amount of innocent people that suffered. Tutsi people, those believed of being Tutsi, and even peaceful Hutu civilians who refused to participate in the violence were hunted down in their homes and massacred. All of this death and despair, but what for? In fear of being overthrown and losing it's power, the elite group running Rwanda pitted the majority of it's citizens against the minority in order to create pandemonium. Although this was recognized by the rest of the world, no one intervened.

The anniversary of this tragedy is quickly approaching. On April 7th  we will commemorate the loss of all of the innocent people who perished in this genocide. This is a time for the world to come together to remember and support all those who were affected by this horrific event as well as becoming more aware of our global issues. Learning is key! As much as we all wish we could go back, make a difference, be that change; we can't. All we can do is learn from the mistakes of the past and assure that it never gets repeated.
